What is a Pressure Sore?

A pressure sore is an avoidable injury that, more often than not, occurs in hospital or nursing home settings to individuals who have difficulty with mobility. They generally occur on a bony prominence, which is an elbow, or the buttocks, or the back of the heels, or the back of the head and occur as a result of pressure on that portion of the body and lack of circulation under the pressure.
It results in skin breakdown and muscle breakdown and the development of a sore which can become very painful, leave scars, and become very debilitating for the individual.
